This project is funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The prevalence of maternal and child malnutrition is increased in low and middle-income countries and it results in substantial raise in mortality and overall disease burden. This devastating problem affects the capacity of the children and mother to achieve their full potential and manifest their suboptimal growth, neural development and immune dysfunction.
Scope of the project
This project will determine if there are growth (fetal, infant, childhood or adolescent) periods of maximal plasticity, when linear growth is most sensitive to macro-/micro-nutrient deficiency, enteric dysfunction and/or diarrhea, and whether/when length-for-age could be used as a surrogate for macro-/micro-nutrient deficiency or dietary inadequacy.
